As a working college student, you probably do not have as much time as your non-working classmates. You might not have as much time doing homework, writing papers, and preparing projects. Fortunately, there is one free resource that is available for you that fits in this category: Google Docs. What makes Google Docs so awesome is that it is not just a free alternative to Microsoft Office, but that you can access it on any computer that has Internet access. Even more so, you can easily share files that you have on your Google account with other classmates, which is not possible with Microsoft Office.

As a Word Alternative
With Google Docs, it is possible to collaborate with other classmates on the same document file at the same time. This means that you can multiple people work on the same Document sheet simultaneously. Imagine if you had three people working on the same Document for your History class. If you do not have consistent access to Microsoft Office, then Google Docs is a lifesaver. There is somewhat of a learning curve as there are just a few features in Docs compared to Office, but the necessary features (fonts, paragraph spacing, footnotes, etc.) are available.
Even for smaller things, like creating an itinerary for a class trip, is possible with Google Docs.
As a PowerPoint Alternative
For many college courses, you will need to create a presentation for speeches. Look no further than Google Docs once again. If you are not creative or do not necessarily require a very professional presentation, Google Docs is all that you need for your class projects and speeches. You can insert images, videos, and tables in each slide. Of course, if you require a very professional and/or creative presentation, you should use Office.
As an Excel Alternative
Not very many college students need to create complex functions and arrays in their spreadsheets. Essentially, the basic SUM functions and the like are the most complex things in college students' spreadsheets. Everything that you do with Excel in Office can be performed with Google Docs.
The biggest advantage to using Google Docs is that you can access it anywhere. Plus one if your job has you sitting in front of a computer.
