The Japanese language is used in Japan along with Japanese areas outside Japan. Japanese is a mix of several distinct scripts, hiragana, katakana and kanji; hiragana is principally derived from the cursive script in china, katakana is a short hand variant of Chinese characters, kanjii has solid Chinese roots as well. In contemporary Japan, "romajii" or the so called "Latin alphabet" is occasionally employed, corporations and companies love to use "romajii" to develop their logos, "romjaii" can also be used in computer data entry.

As opposed to English language, in the Japanese language the sentence structure is typically reversed in order, consider for instance a phrase such as "Jim plays the guitar", in Japanese this will become "Jim" "guitar" "play", notice that the actual action-word occurs last in the sentence, right after the object. The Japanese language furthermore tend to depend on compound verbs to present events, where in English we tend to more often simply just utilize a verb and a "to", like "to walk".
Japanese is composed vertically, contrary to English which happens to be written from left to right, you will find two major Japanese writing methods, kanjii and syllabaries, kanjii is firmly based in china, I would also add that in the Chinese language, every single character often has a different meaning, and can actually substitute a whole word, and sometimes a phrase, that's the reason why you can see many hundreds Chinese language characters many of which are usually rarely utilized.
